New Zealand energy generator and retailer Contact Energy announced on Monday plans to raise $NZ525 million (just shy of $A450 million) to accelerate its renewable energy development plans.

Fortescue plans to “copy and paste” its new 50 megawatt (MW), five hour North Star Junction battery across the other six storage projects it currently has under development. 

EnergyAustralia, one of the country’s big three private energy utilities, has reached financial close on its second big battery project, which will piggy-pack on the connection of an existing gas generator at the site.

Ocean Winds, the 50/50 joint venture between EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) and Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), said today it has officially been granted a feasibility licence for the development of up-to-1.2-GW Westward Wind offshore wind project in Australia.

Korea Midland Power has allocated £49 million to acquire an interest in the 390MW Sinan Ui offshore wind initiative, bringing the project into its expanding portfolio.

A company that originally made a name for itself with gravity-based energy storage tech – and has since focused on conventional lithium-ion batteries – has written a deal for a sodium ion battery targeted at data centres that also includes Australia. 

The developers of a proposed massive 70 gigawatt wind, solar and hydrogen hub in the south-east corner of Western Australia have brought in key Asia partners to help advance the first six gigawatt stage of its ambitious but contested project.
