UPDATED: Vattenfall wins Danish offshore wind tender

Vattenfall has won contracts to build the 1GW Nordsøen Midt (North Sea 1 Mid) and 800MW Hesselø offshore wind farms in Denmark.

The Danish Energy Agency said Vattenfall bid €67.42/MWh (DKr504/MWh) for Nordsøen Midt and €72.50/MWh (DKr542/MWh) for Hesselø, according to the Danish Energy Agency.

The DEA added that Nordsøen Midt received two bids, while Hesselø attracted five bids.

The winning bidder will receive the offered electricity price for 20 years from completion of each offshore wind farm.

“The Danish Energy Agency has conducted an extensive market dialogue and tender process on the construction of two new offshore wind farms in the North Sea and Kattegat,” said Stig Uffe Pedersen, deputy director general of the Danish Energy Agency.

“It is very pleasing that we have now reached an important milestone with a positive result, where we can announce the winners of the tenders.”

The Danish Energy Agency launched tenders in November 2025 for three offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 2.8GW: Nordsøen Midt, Nordsøen Syd and Hesselø.

The agency said the Nordsøen Syd tender, covering a minimum of 1GW of offshore wind capacity, has a bid deadline of October 2028.

“Winning both projects reflects our continued ambition to grow our offshore wind portfolio and support the electrification of industry and society,” said David Flood, Head of Vattenfall Business Unit Offshore.

“Wind power, together with other fossil-free sources of generation, can help meet the growing demand for clean electricity in Europe. Projects like this demonstrate how we are scaling offshore wind while maintaining a strong focus on affordability and long-term value.”

The Hesselø and the North Sea I Mid offshore wind projects build on Vattenfall’s strong offshore wind portfolio in Denmark totalling around 1.5GW, the company added.

Beyond strengthening Denmark’s fossil-free energy production, both projects will be developed with a focus on creating value for business, people and planet alike, it stated.

Environmental and social considerations will be integrated into the project from the outset.

“Vattenfall will now work closely with relevant partners and authorities to further develop both projects.”
