Trump intends to scrap approval of 2.6GW permit

The Trump administration has signalled its intention to target a second wind farm in as many weeks, this time going after Iberdrola’s up-to 2600MW New England 1 and 2 arrays.
The federal government wrote in a court filing Wednesday that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is “in the process of reconsidering its approval” of the Constructions and Operations Plan for the array.
The federal government revealed its ongoing reconsideration of the project in a filing in a separate lawsuit challenging the project’s approval.
The federal government also said in the filing that it would seek to vacate the projects COP approval no later than October 10.
In September the state of Massachusetts agreed to acquire 791MW of the first phase of the New England Wind project, though the finalisation of contracts has been delayed several times since.
BOEM approved the plan for the project in July 2024.
Iberdrola has been contacted for comment.
