Taiwan ‘plans 3.6GW Round 3.3 auction’

At least 3600MW of capacity will be released in Taiwan’s forthcoming offshore wind round, according to reports.

The draft framework for Round 3.3 is expected to be announced soon, according to local media.

Further consultation with developers and supply chain companies will follow in a briefing session to be organised by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The ministry is also considering how to handle an additional 900MW that may return to market if earlier projects are cancelled or abandoned.

A key feature of Round 3.3 is the removal of mandatory domestic production requirements, it is understood.

The plan will also eliminate zero-dollar bidding and instead adopt a base price derived from Taipower’s cost avoidance mechanism, according to reports.

An incentive mechanism will meanwhile reward earlier grid connection with a higher base price, local media claimed.

The third-tier cap of 500MW may also be lifted, allowing developers to propose larger projects according to their capabilities.
