Role Overview

The Business Development Manager, Acquisition will support the growth of my client’s renewable energy portfolio in Japan. This role is responsible foridentifying, evaluating, and securing both greenfield land opportunities and brownfield M&A opportunities for operating renewable energy assets. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the successful candidate will lead the end-to-end acquisition process from origination through to deal close.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate, assess, and negotiate land acquisition and M&A opportunities aligned with company strategy.
  • Manage full acquisition cycle: site identification, due diligence (zoning, permitting, grid access, asset performance), financial/technical evaluation, and contract negotiations.
  • Build strong relationships with landowners, local governments, developers, and asset owners.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (GIS, legal, engineering, finance, development) to evaluate project feasibility and support structuring through to NTP/acquisition close.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and market trends impacting land use and renewable development.
  • Contribute to internal reporting (pipeline updates, investment memos, and strategy reports).
  • Coordinate with country and regional teams to align on acquisition strategy and execution.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree in Business, Real Estate, Engineering, Finance, or Environmental Studies.
  • 1–5 years of experience in land sourcing, M&A, project development, infrastructure, or real estate.
  • Candidates without prior renewables experience are welcome if they demonstrate strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Familiarity with Japan’s land acquisition processes and regulatory landscape is advantageous.
  • Native-level Japanese (required) and proficient English (preferred).
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
