Procurement Manager, Onshore Wind – Tokyo based

My client is a leading renewable energy platform with a large and growing onshore wind portfolio across Asia-Pacific. They are expanding their in-house delivery capability and are looking for a procurement specialist to join the team in Tokyo. International candidates are welcome, and relocation support is available for the right person.

The role

You will lead the sourcing and contracting of wind turbine supply and the related construction, electrical and logistics packages for the company’s onshore wind projects. Working with the engineering, development, legal and project teams, you will shape the procurement strategy, negotiate with suppliers, and make sure projects are delivered on cost and to quality standards. You will report to the Senior Manager, Procurement, and travel regularly to project sites. You will also help the business enter new markets by supporting the Head of Delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Support turbine selection for each project, weighing site conditions, certification, logistics, performance and reliability.
• Contribute to turbine, installation and transport due diligence alongside the development and technical teams, covering energy yield, grid compliance and environmental factors.
• Negotiate early works agreements and term sheets with turbine manufacturers, and flag risks and mitigations to senior leadership.
• Manage the full set of turbine contracts, including supply, installation, service and long-term service agreements, as well as logistics contracts.
• Run the RFQ process: issue enquiries, collect and compare quotations, and negotiate price while holding to technical requirements.
• Support project financing, including technical due diligence, cash flow input and lender queries.
• Prepare the handover of completed projects to the operations and asset management teams.
• Keep supplier NDAs in place and up to date.
• Support the Head of Delivery on new-market expansion and other special projects.

What you bring

• Wind turbine (WTG) procurement experience is essential, ideally 2 to 5 years in renewable energy procurement.
• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred).
• Strong negotiation skills and a track record of cost-reduction initiatives.
• A solid network of turbine OEMs, suppliers and logistics providers.
• Self-starter who can manage multiple projects and priorities at once.
• Professional communication skills with external stakeholders.
• Advantageous: Mandarin, and Japanese. English is the working language.
