Ocean Winds officially granted second Aussie feasibility licence

Ocean Winds, the 50/50 joint venture between EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) and Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), said today it has officially been granted a feasibility licence for the development of up-to-1.2-GW Westward Wind offshore wind project in Australia.
The feasibility licence, awarded by the Australian government, is for an area of 206 sq km off the coast of Bunbury, Western Australia.
Westward Wind now forms part of Ocean Winds’ global development portfolio. This is the company’s second offshore wind project in Australia after High Sea Wind of an expected capacity of 1.3 GW off Gippsland, Victoria.
The Australian government offered final feasibility licences to three projects, including Westward Wind, in the Bunbury offshore renewable energy zone in January.
Victoria, meanwhile, plans to hold its long-awaited inaugural offshore wind auction this summer, offering an initial 2 GW of capacity off Gippsland Island.
