Network Engineer – Energy Storage (BESS)

My client is a global energy technology company active in large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) and grid-connected energy projects. They are looking to appoint a Network Engineer to support the design, implementation, and operation of secure and reliable network infrastructure across utility-scale energy storage projects.
This role sits at the intersection of IT/OT, engineering, and operations, supporting both project delivery and long-term system performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain network architectures for utility-scale BESS and renewable energy projects
- Support LAN/WAN, VPN, firewalls, switches, and routers across project sites and offices
- Ensure secure communication between BESS, SCADA, EMS, PLCs, and control systems
- Work closely with engineering, commissioning, and operations teams during project execution
- Troubleshoot network and communication issues during construction, commissioning, and operations
- Define and maintain network security standards, access control, and cybersecurity best practices
- Support remote monitoring, data acquisition, and system availability
- Liaise with EPCs, vendors, and integrators on network and communication requirements
- Document network designs, configurations, and operational procedures
- Provide technical support and training to internal teams where required
Required Experience
- Experience as a Network Engineer or similar role in energy, industrial, infrastructure, or data-center environments
- Strong hands-on knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs)
- Experience with industrial networks and OT environments
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles in critical infrastructure
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network and communication issues independently
- Comfortable working across multidisciplinary engineering teams
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience in renewable energy, BESS, power plants, or industrial automation
- Exposure to SCADA / EMS / PLC communication networks
- Experience supporting projects across multiple countries or remote sites
- Knowledge of IEC standards or industrial communication protocols
- Experience working with EPCs or system integrators
