Korea awards capacity to offshore wind bidders

South Korean officials have awarded capacity to four bidders in the year’s first offshore wind tender.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has confirmed the issuing of 689MW to four currently undisclosed developers under the public-led power bidding promotion plan, announced in March this year.
A spokesperson said: “We recognise the importance of wind power as a key execution area of the new government’s national project for a renewable energy-centric energy transition and plan to prepare major policies such as strategies to accelerate the expansion of offshore wind power and the next wind power competitive bidding roadmap.”
The results of the auction will be announced by the Korea Energy Agency later today.
