JPee, GDS eye tie-up to create major French renewables player

French independent power producers JP Energie Environnement (JPee) and Generale du Solaire (GDS) are exploring a merger of equals that would create a renewables group with more than 1.2 GW of operating assets.

The companies and Banque des Territoires have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work out the terms of the proposed combination. The French lender owns a 34% stake in JPee and is a partner of GDS.

The tie-up will pool the companies’ operating assets across solar, wind and energy storage. The enlarged entity will also have 400 MW of ready-to-build projects and a development pipeline of more than 5 GW.

The combined group intends to advance growth in onshore wind and solar in France, while expanding activities in self-consumption and energy storage. It will also have a 400-MW portfolio of operating, under-construction and development-stage assets in Italy.

JPee had 622 MW of installed wind and solar capacity as of January 2026, while GDS owns more than 550 MWp of solar plants in France and 75 MWp in Italy.

The contemplated transaction remains subject to further negotiations, employee information and consultation procedures at JPee and GDS, as well as the receipt of required approvals. Completion could be expected in the first quarter of 2027.
