Jacket foundations for 1GW Taiwanese wind project delivered

The massive jacket foundations for a 1GW offshore wind farm in Taiwan have been officially delivered.

Century Wind Power was tasked with providing 21 three-legged substructures for the Hai Long 2a site off the coast of Changhua County, each weighing 2,000 tons and standing 90 metres tall.

The foundations are the largest and heaviest ever produced for a Taiwanese offshore wind farm, according to the developer, and represent the country’s most recent project to reach late-stage development.

Tim Kittelhake, Hai Long CEO and project director, said: “Our collaboration with Century Wind Power has been essential to the project’s progress and is a testament to the strength and reliability of Taiwan’s local supply chain.

“It also demonstrates that Taiwan is capable of supporting the nation’s offshore wind ambitions and continues to attract investment in complex, large-scale infrastructure.”

Hai Long comprises two offshore wind farms which are split into three sites – Hai Long 2a (294MW), Hai Long 2b (224MW) and Hai Long 3 (504MW).

Century Wind Power was chosen to supply 2a’s foundations in 2022.

Once operational, the three sites will be among the largest offshore wind farms in the Asia Pacific region, providing renewable energy to more than one million Taiwanese homes.
