About the Role
Based in Malaysia and reporting to senior regional leadership, the Investment Director will lead origination, evaluation, and execution of investments in Malaysia. The role requires strong deal execution experience, ideally with an investment banking background, and the ability to drive cross‑functional workstreams from screening through closing.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Strategy, Origination, and Execution
- Build and manage a high‑quality pipeline aligned to mandate and market conditions.
- Lead screening, commercial due diligence, valuation, and risk assessment; synthesize findings into clear recommendations.
- Prepare and present investment memoranda and decision materials for senior leadership and investment committees.
- Drive full transaction execution: structuring, documentation, negotiations, and closing, coordinating internal teams and external advisors.
- Establish execution standards; review and elevate models/analyses produced by the team.
Market and Stakeholder Engagement
- Track policy, regulatory, and macro developments in Malaysia; assess implications for investment theses and structuring.
- Develop and maintain relationships with counterparties, advisors, and relevant public/private stakeholders to advance transactions.
Governance, Diligence, and Reporting
- Coordinate cross‑functional diligence (legal, tax, technical, compliance); consolidate outputs into decision‑ready insights.
- Uphold documentation quality, version control, and auditability across all workstreams.
Team Leadership
- Mentor junior team members; set clear quality bars for analyses, writing, and stakeholder management.
- Model a collaborative, high‑ownership culture grounded in execution excellence.
Qualifications and Requirements
Must‑Haves
- 10–15+ years’ experience in private markets or capital markets (e.g., principal investing, investment banking, project/structured finance, or corporate development) with a proven execution track record in the region.
- Advanced financial acumen; able to interrogate complex models, pressure‑test assumptions, and synthesize risk/return drivers for decision makers.
- Strong commercial judgment and negotiation experience across term sheets and definitive documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; confident presenting to senior internal forums.
- Robust project/process management; able to lead multiple concurrent workstreams to tight deadlines with high attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Full professional proficiency in English; willingness to travel within Malaysia and across the region as needed.
- Deep familiarity with the Malaysian investment landscape and regulatory context.
Nice‑to‑Haves
- Prior investment banking background and/or significant transaction leadership experience.
- Familiarity with Malaysia‑relevant financing and market practices (e.g., local regulatory processes; experience with Islamic finance instruments is a plus where applicable).
- Additional regional language proficiency.
