Head of Battery Engineering & Solutions – Emerging Markets (Utility-Scale Focus)

About the Role
Lead the technical strategy, design, and delivery ofutility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) across Southeast Asia and other emerging markets. Drive innovation, ensure bankable designs, and position the company as a leader in large-scale energy storage.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Solution Design
- Lead end-to-end engineering of utility-scale BESS and hybrid PV+BESS solutions.
- Translate project requirements into scalable, cost-effective designs using Li-ion, LFP, sodium-ion, or emerging chemistries.
- Ensure designs meet safety, performance, and compliance standards while optimizing lifecycle costs.
Industry Engagement & Technology Strategy
- Represent the company in industry forums and technical discussions with utilities, EPCs, OEMs, and financiers.
- Maintain strong relationships with top-tier battery and system integrators.
- Evaluate new technologies and guide roadmap development for large-scale applications.
Commercial & Project Support
- Partner with sales and BD teams to develop winning technical proposals for major utility projects.
- Support feasibility studies, product selection, and ROI analysis.
- Address challenges such as grid intermittency, interconnection requirements, and large-scale system integration.
Team Development
- Build and mentor a high-performing utility-scale battery engineering team.
- Develop design standards, tools, and best practices for consistent project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, or related field.
- 10+ years in battery storage engineering, with at least 5 years in utility-scale projects.
- Proven leadership in large BESS deployments (≥ 50 MW).
- Strong understanding of EMS, grid interconnection, and hybrid plant design.
- Recognized industry expert with speaking, publication, or association track record.
- Experience in emerging markets and complex grid environments.
