Germany awards 3.4GW in onshore wind tender

Germany awarded 439 bids in its latest onshore wind auction, covering the full 3445MW of offered capacity.
The Federal Network Agency said 924 bids totalling 7858MW were submitted, making the tender heavily oversubscribed.
The agency added that 24 bids were excluded from the award process, with successful bids ranging between 5.19 ct/kWh and 5.64 ct/kWh.
The volume-weighted average award price fell to 5.54 ct/kWh from 6.06 ct/kWh in the previous round.
This marks the lowest average award value since the February 2018 auction.
The largest awarded volumes were in Lower Saxony with 957MW from 96 awards, followed by North Rhine-Westphalia with 661MW from 100 awards.
Saxony-Anhalt accounted for 438MW from 53 awards, while Brandenburg secured 396MW from 60 awards.
Southern states Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg made up just two percent of the total awarded volume.
Klaus Müller, president of the Federal Network Agency, said: “The auction for onshore wind turbines was again heavily oversubscribed as in the previous bidding round. The award values fell significantly once more.”
