Eight giant cooling towers at the former Cottam Power Station in the UK were demolished in a matter of seconds

• 𝗘𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 at the former Cottam Power Station in the UK were 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀 💥 using half a tonne of explosives, dramatically changing the landscape of North Nottinghamshire.

• The spectacular event set a new 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 🏆 for the greatest number of cooling towers demolished in a single controlled explosion, a major milestone in the plant’s decommissioning.

• The demolition marks the 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗿𝗮 for the 51-year-old coal plant, which once powered 3.7 million homes. This follows the closure of the UK’s last coal-fired power station in 2024, signaling a firm shift towards cleaner energy.
