Denmark launches 2.8GW offshore wind tender

Three sites offered with new support scheme

Denmark has opened tenders for three offshore wind sites totalling at least 2800MW, according to the Danish Energy Agency.

The agency said the North Sea Mid, Hesselo and North Sea South areas will supply green electricity equivalent to the consumption of around three million Danish and European homes.

The tenders will use a two-sided capability-based contract for difference, which the Danish Energy Agency said guarantees producers a fixed power price and reduces the risk of low electricity prices for developers.

The agency added that a payment cap of DKK55.2bn (approx €7.39 billion) including VAT has been set for the state.

The tenders include requirements on sustainability and social responsibility, including blade recyclability, measures against social dumping and a nature-inclusive design for Hesselo.

The Danish Energy Agency said it retains the right to request documentation at any time to ensure compliance with applicable cybersecurity rules.

The agency stated that the tenders follow the 2024 offshore wind round, where no bids were received for the first three areas offered, leading to further market dialogue and two political agreements in 2025.

Tender documents are being published via EU Supply, with submission deadlines in spring 2026 for North Sea Mid and Hesselo and in autumn 2028 for North Sea South.

The Danish Energy Agency confirmed minimum capacities of 1GW for North Sea Mid, 800MW for Hesselo and 1GW for North Sea South, with completion deadlines between 2032 and 2034.

It added that the framework allows winning bidders to establish overplanting capacity.
