Project Director
About the job
Our client, a leading global onshore renewable energy developer, is seeking a Project Director to lead the progression of its project portfolio in the Philippines, from development through financial close, construction and into operations. This is a senior, commercially focused leadership role: the successful candidate will prioritise and structure a portfolio of development-stage projects, drive them to investment readiness, and maintain oversight through construction and operational handover.
The Project Director will lead a small in-country team and act as the primary point of accountability for project progression, commercial structuring and contracts management, working closely with technical and delivery specialists rather than owning the engineering detail directly. This role sits at the intersection of development, commercial strategy and project delivery, and requires someone equally comfortable negotiating complex agreements and engaging with investors, regulators and partners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and prioritise a portfolio of development-stage projects in the Philippines, driving them toward investment readiness
- Own commercial structuring and value creation across the portfolio, including offtake (PPA) strategy, grid connection agreements, contracting frameworks and cost optimisation
- Lead contracts management across the project lifecycle, including negotiation of key commercial agreements with landowners, grid operators, contractors and other counterparties
- Prepare projects for financial investment decision (FID), coordinating due diligence and investment approval processes with senior leadership and investors
- Oversee the transition from development into construction, maintaining continuity of commercial and contractual arrangements post-FID
- Retain schedule and cost oversight of projects through construction and into operations, working closely with technical and delivery leads without owning day-to-day engineering execution
- Lead, manage and develop a small in-country team
- Build and manage relationships with permitting authorities, regulators, joint venture and development partners, lenders and contractors
- Represent projects to senior leadership and investment committees, supporting governance and reporting requirements
- Manage risk and share learnings and best practice across the project portfolio
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
Experience
- Significant experience in renewable energy or infrastructure project development, ideally spanning the Philippines and/or broader Southeast Asia
- A demonstrated track record of taking at least one project successfully through financial investment decision (FID), construction, and into successful operation
- Strong project development background, with experience across the full project lifecycle from early-stage development through to operations
- Experience operating in investor-backed environments, including exposure to fund managers or investment committees
- Experience leading and developing a small team
Skills & Attributes
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, with proven contracts management experience across complex, multi-party agreements
- Good working understanding of renewable energy technologies and project delivery, without requiring a technical or engineering background; this is a commercially led role, not a technical one
- Structured approach to project and stakeholder management, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams concurrently
- Fluent Tagalog and English, both written and spoken
- Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, comfortable interfacing with authorities, regulators, partners and counterparties
WHAT’S ON OFFER:
- A senior, high-visibility leadership role driving the Philippines growth strategy of a leading global renewable energy developer
- Genuine ownership of a project portfolio from development through to operations
- Competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with experience
