A leading renewable energy platform is seeking a highly analytical and technically strong professional to join its Technical Services and Energy Strategy team in Tokyo.
This is a unique opportunity to help build and lead internal capabilities across grid analysis, curtailment assessment, congestion modelling, and power market forecasting, supporting a growing portfolio of renewable energy and energy storage projects across Japan.
The role will work closely with development, asset management, bidding, electrical engineering, GIS, and commercial teams to deliver actionable market intelligence and grid-related insights for strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead internal methodologies for grid analysis, power flow studies, transmission constraints, and curtailment assessment
- Produce short, medium, and long-term market forecasts including nodal pricing, congestion trends, balancing market dynamics, and ancillary services analysis
- Monitor Japanese electricity market developments, grid operations, interconnection policies, and regulatory changes
- Act as product owner for internal analytics and forecasting tools, working alongside GIS and engineering teams
- Support project evaluation, bidding strategies, and investment decision-making through data-driven insights and modelling
- Translate complex technical outputs into clear commercial recommendations for senior stakeholders
- Requirements
- Degree in Energy Engineering, Power Systems, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related discipline
- Experience within power systems modelling, grid simulation, energy market analytics, or electricity market forecasting
- Familiarity with power flow and network modelling tools
- Strong analytical and programming capabilities, ideally including Python and GIS-based tools
- Understanding of Japan’s electricity market structure, grid interconnection process, and regulatory environment
- Experience working across multidisciplinary technical and commercial teams
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Japanese language capability is strongly preferred (N2 and above)
