Role Overview

We are seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager to lead growth of technical advisory services with a well positioned business across the utility scale solar sector in Asia. The role is based in Vietnam but regionally focused, supporting developers, investors and lenders across Southeast Asia and wider APAC. The primary focus is on Lenders Technical Advisor (LTA) mandates, Owners Engineering (OE) services and technical due diligence for project finance, M&A and portfolio transactions. Over time, the role will also support origination of repowering and performance improvement mandates for underperforming operating assets, linked to future refinancing and fundraising strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development and Origination

  • Identify, originate and secure new advisory mandates in utility scale solar across Asia, with priority on LTA, Owners Engineer and technical DD scopes.
  • Build and manage relationships with developers, IPPs, infrastructure funds, banks, DFIs and private credit lenders active in renewable project finance.
  • Track regional project pipelines, financing milestones and M&A activity to position the company early for technical advisory roles.
  • Lead proposal preparation, scope definition and commercial negotiations in coordination with technical teams.

Client and Market Coverage

  • Develop deep coverage of key markets including Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea and Australia as relevant.
  • Engage with lenders and investors at credit, project finance and asset management level to position LTA and portfolio DD services.
  • Work closely with developers and asset owners on Owners Engineering roles through development, construction and operations phases.

Technical Advisory Positioning

  • Work with engineering and advisory teams to shape service offerings for LTA, Owners Engineering and technical DD.
  • Support positioning around performance improvement, life extension and repowering strategies for aging or underperforming solar portfolios.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, market insights and client presentations related to technology trends, degradation, repowering and asset optimisation.

Internal Coordination

  • Coordinate with technical, engineering and project management teams to ensure smooth transition from BD to project execution.
  • Maintain CRM discipline, pipeline reporting and forecasting of revenue and win probability.
  • Support strategic planning around target clients, priority geographies and service line expansion.

Candidate Profile

Experience

  • 7 to 12 years of experience in renewable energy, with a strong focus on utility scale solar.
  • Background in one or more of the following: technical advisory, engineering consultancy, IPP, developer, EPC, or project finance advisory.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with lenders, investors or developers on project finance, DD or Owners Engineer type scopes.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Good understanding of the solar project lifecycle, from development and design through construction and operations.
  • Familiarity with LTA scopes, Owners Engineering roles and technical due diligence for financing or transactions.
  • Commercially strong, able to originate opportunities, write proposals and close mandates.
  • Good grasp of project finance structures and how technical risks link to bankability and investment decisions.

Personal Attributes

  • Entrepreneurial, proactive and comfortable building a regional pipeline from a Vietnam base.
  • Strong communication skills, able to engage both technical and financial stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working across cultures and geographies in a regional role.
  • Willing to travel regionally as required.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Annual order intake and revenue from LTA, Owners Engineering and technical DD mandates.
  • Number and quality of new client relationships established with lenders, funds and developers.
  • Pipeline growth across priority Asian markets.
  • Conversion rate from lead to signed mandate.
