The BESS Network Engineer is responsible for defining network architecture, implementing cybersecurity best practices, configuring network hardware, and supporting commissioning and operations across project sites.
This role requires hands-on experience in industrial networking, cybersecurity principles, and supporting utility-scale or C&I-scale energy storage deployments.
Key Responsibilities
Network Architecture & Cybersecurity
- Design and document the full network architecture for BESS projects, including communication pathways between battery systems, inverters, controllers, SCADA, EMS, and remote access.
- Apply, implement, and enforce cybersecurity rules and guidelines across all project networks.
- Develop project-specific network diagrams, safety assurance plans, and technical documentation (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint).
Configuration & Commissioning
- Configure routers, switches, firewalls, and communication equipment such as:
- Moxa, RedLion, Fortinet Firewalls, Cisco Switches, Hirschmann
- Fiber optic and Ethernet (RJ45) networking
- Perform testing, troubleshooting, and validation of network components during commissioning.
- Develop testing procedures and ensure proper execution and documentation.
- Provide technical support during commissioning, ensuring quick resolution of issues and system reliability.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as the interface between internal engineering teams, subcontractors, and clients during network implementation.
