Husum 2025: Sany lands debut in Western Europe

Sany has secured its first orders in western Europe for onshore wind turbines, it has revealed.
The Chinese OEM has secured a contract in Germany for two turbines and another in Spain for a single unit from unnamed customers and for undisclosed locations.
Speaking to reNEWS at Husum Wind, Sany Renewable Energy Germany MD Paulo Fernando Soares said that the orders were an opportunity for the company to demonstrate its products to its customers, and would result in “increased engagement” from the market.
In Germany, Sany signed a contract for two SI-16050 units with 160-metre rotor diameters and 5MW unit capacity in the second half of 2024. The project is already permitted and scheduled to bid for an EEG contract this year.
The schedule means that the units could be installed next year, Soares said, adding that the turbine would be the first to be installed in Germany from a Chinese OEM.
In Spain, construction work for a single SI-172625 turbine unit with a rotor diameter of 172 metres and 6.25MW unit capacity is imminent.
The contract for the site in Spain was signed earlier this year, Soares said.
The orders follow the successful type certification for these turbine models to international and German standards, Soares said.
“We started the certification process for five turbine units when we decided that we wanted to start selling turbines in Europe three years ago,” Soares said. “The process takes a long time but is progressing quite well.”
The company completed certification of its SI-172625 turbine to international standards in 2024, meaning it can sell the unit to most European markets. Its SI-16050 turbine gained certification to German standards at the end of August 2025, Soares added.
Both turbine types are from Sany’s 4.X-5.X platform.
