Hai Long foundation work finished early, developer says

Work to install more than 73 offshore wind foundations in Taiwanese waters was finished ahead of schedule, a developer has said.

CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) has just wrapped up installing all 73 jacket foundations at Northland Power’s 1GW Hai Long offshore wind farm, its largest yet.

Located in the Taiwan Strait, the work proved challenging because of unstable sea and weather conditions, but Tim Kittelhake, Hai Long project director and CEO, said teams were able to complete the installation earlier than expected.

“This milestone not only highlights the exceptional capabilities of the Green Jade vessel but also the close partnership with the Hai Long project team in planning, coordination and execution,” he said.

Green Jade, a self-built DP3 offshore heavy lift vessel, managed a record of three jackets installed within two days.

Tim added: “This symbolises the steady progress of the project and further strengthens our confidence in achieving the grid connection targets on time.”

With the foundations installed, work can now begin to fit the topsides and turbine towers, paving the way for first power.
