Role Overview

Join one of South Korea’s leading offshore wind projects as an Export Cable Installation Project Engineer. In this pivotal role, you will provide essential support to the Cables Package, working closely with installation contractors. You will be responsible for the planning, scheduling, coordination, and oversight of all submarine cable construction activities throughout the wind farm’s development and execution phases.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Oversee the Export Cable Installation Contractor’s work to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and design specifications.
  • Monitor, review, and provide feedback on the contractor’s installation planning, engineering activities, and related documentation.
  • Coordinate document review cycles with external stakeholders, including Marine Warranty Surveyors and Project Certification Bodies.
  • Manage interfaces with internal teams, particularly regarding permitting, to ensure all installation activities comply with project construction permits, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Marine Traffic & Safety Assessments (MTSA), and Fisheries Impact Assessments (FIA).
  • Facilitate coordination between the Export Cable Installation Contractor and other project construction packages, such as Marine Coordination, Offshore Substation, and Onshore Substation teams.
  • Ensure contractor activities adhere to Employer Requirements, management plans, and project HSE and quality standards, including regular internal reporting.
  • Track and report on contractor progress against project schedules, highlighting any deviations and supporting timely project delivery.
  • Oversee both offshore and onshore installation activities, including shore end landings.
  • Perform general administrative tasks such as minute-taking, preparing presentations, and maintaining trackers and registers.

Secondary Duties:

  • Support other package activities, including Export Cable and Inter-Array Cable manufacturing and installation.
  • Participate in project team meetings and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Contribute to HAZID/HAZOP studies for installation design and offshore operations.
  • Review and comment on technical documentation, ensuring the implementation of best practices.
  • Assess and review contractor method statements and risk assessments.
  • Prepare budget estimates and analyse project schedule floats.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and opportunities.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and manage change and configuration processes.
  • Communicate significant technical issues and risks to relevant stakeholders, developing contingency plans as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in complex, multidisciplinary project environments, with:
  • At least 3 years in submarine cable installation engineering or construction management.
  • At least 2 years in construction site monitoring.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required.
  • Proficiency in Korean is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent IT and project management abilities.
  • High attention to detail and organisational skills.
